Curriculum

Again this year, our curriculum will include “academic enhancement,” a series of evening seminars on study skills, time management, stress management, and preparing academically for college golf. Students will complete daily station rotations that cover every phase of the game.  Topics such as fitness, tournament preparation, course strategy, rules, equipment, and psychology are also covered. Students will also participate in competitive intramural and recreational activities. Everyone will take home a school notebook, which will include the week’s written notes on instruction, analysis of swing and equipment, and drill recommendations for future improvement. Coach Devon Brouse, the golf school’s director, heads a highly motivated instructional staff consisting of other PGA professionals and top college coaches. Their expert instruction is exceeded only by their willingness and desire to help junior players develop and refine their skills.

The tuition includes all room and board, instruction, and use of the range and course. Each student will take home a golf school shirt and hat. A non-refundable deposit of $645 must be included with your registration form. The balance of $645 is due May 1, 2011. A $300 per person Team Incentive is available if three or more members from the same team register for the same session. The coach’s name must appear on the registration form and the forms must be returned together in order to qualify for the Team Incentive. Purdue University is not responsible for costs incurred due to cancellation.

School Director

Devon Brouse is in his 13th year as director of golf and head golf coach for Purdue University. This is his 33rd year as director of the Coaches Golf School. Coach Brouse has directed and instructed at over 80 golf schools. His Purdue Women’s team have won five Big Ten championships, as well as the 2010 NCAA championship. He has coached two individual NCAA champions, Maria Hernandez (Purdue, 2010), and John Inman (University of North Carolina, 1983). His former players have won a total of 27 times on the PGA Tour, and he was named National Coach of the Year in both 2006 and 2010. Brouse received the Labron Harris Award in 2006 and was inducted into the GCAA Hall of Fame in 2009.

“At the Coaches Purdue Golf School, swing fundamentals are not the only emphasis,” says Brouse. “We believe that strong values and attitudes are needed for young people to grow and improve in the game of golf. The academic enhancement seminars will help prepare our students for college, and the interaction with top coaches is an excellent preview of college golf, as well as contact for proper placement.”
